Gardenias can grow as shrubs or small trees, with some varieties reaching up to 4 feet in height. Gardenia Care:

1. Light: Gardenias prefer bright, indirect light but can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight each day. Too much sun, however, can scorch their leaves, while too little light can prevent flowering.

2. Watering: Gardenias thrive in consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. Water regularly, keeping the soil damp but well-drained. They dislike drying out completely, so make sure to check the soil moisture regularly, especially in hot weather.

3. Soil: They prefer acidic, well-draining soil with a pH level between 5.0 and 6.0. Amending the soil with organic material, such as compost, can help improve its structure and acidity.

4. Temperature: Gardenias grow best in temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C) during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night. They are sensitive to cold and should be protected from frost, as they are not frost-hardy.

5. Humidity: Gardenias thrive in high humidity, so regular misting or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help. In dry indoor environments, a humidifier may be necessary to keep the plant healthy.

6. Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed Gardenias with a balanced fertilizer designed for acid-loving plants. Avoid fertilizing in winter when the plant is not actively growing.

7. Pruning: To maintain the shape of the plant and encourage new growth, prune after blooming. Remove dead or yellowing leaves, as well as any spent flowers, to improve airflow and prevent disease.

8. Pests and Problems: Gardenias can be susceptible to pests like aphids, scale insects, and whiteflies. Regularly check for pests and treat with insecticidal soap if necessary. Yellowing leaves can be a sign of poor drainage, overwatering, or nutrient deficiencies.
